JOB Skilled crafts responsibility for providing the installation, alteration and maintenance of plumbing and mechanical systems in the city’s buildings and facilities.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Foreman.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Repairs and alters heaters, boilers, pumps, air conditioners and other water, sewer and gas systems and fixtures.
Installs and maintains plumbing fixtures and piping for air, water, gas, oil and ventilation systems.
Installs, maintains, repairs and winterizes lawn irrigation systems.
Installs and replaces water meters.
Researches new ideas and concepts for plumbing and heating systems to improve the efficiency and performance of current systems.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Considerable knowledge of plumbing practices and procedures, including water, sewer and gas.
Considerable knowledge of local and state plumbing codes.
Considerable knowledge of plumbing materials and tools.
Ability to establish working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and confined spaces.
The employee is exposed to cold, heat, snow, wind, rain.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, push, pull, pick, pinch, kneel, grasp, climb, ride and perform similar body movements.
Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to use hand and power tools and operator a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone and two-way radio; and the ability to see and read blueprints and instructions.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday.
Work is typically performed Monday through Friday.
This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.
TRAVELTravel is primarily local during the business day.
Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
