PURPOSE:
The Assistant Operations Zone Superintendent assists the Operations Zone Superintendent in overseeing operational tasks relating to projects, substantial maintenance/turnaround tasks, operational excellence, plant reliability, and assisting with engineering studies.
The Assistant Superintendent primarily provides administrative support to the Superintendent; secondary duties include vacation & sick relief for Superintendent as well as Shift Supervisors.
This position reports to the Operations Zone Superintendent.
KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist Superintendent to develop strategic plans for process improvements
• Assist Superintendent with all PSM related efforts for the Zone
• Assist with tracking KPIs to assess effectiveness of improvements
• Assist with maintaining operating procedures/training for Zone
• Assist with implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
• Coordinate engineering studies between operators and engineering
• Coordinate reliability efforts with maintenance and engineering
• Coordinate major maintenance/turnaround efforts with maintenance and engineering
• Provide sick/vacation relief for Zone Superintendent
• Provide sick/vacation relief for Shift Supervisors
• Maintain expertise and act as first responder to critical issues in the zone
• Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:
• Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years operations and/or engineering experience in a refinery environment
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:
• Minimum 1 year shift supervision

• Excellent student and teacher, willing to acquire knowledge to become expert and teacher
• Must be willing/able to be “on-call” for various plant emergencies 24 hours a day, and work as needed to ensure continuous safe and environmentally compliant plant production
