Reports To: MSM President FLSA Status: Exempt Organization Background We have over 20 years of oilseed processing experience and have established a reputation for product quality and excellent service with both customers and growers.
Montana Specialty Mills is a joint venture between Columbia Grain International, a leading worldwide grain and pulse supplier based in Portland, Oregon, and Evans Grain based in Burley, Idaho.
Our new, state-of-the-art crush plant and refinery represents a firm investment in Montana agriculture.
Located along the Missouri River in Great Falls, this facility is focused on processing specialty oilseeds.
Our Great Falls plant has the capability to load product into railcars, bulk trucks, totes and drums.
This facility is designed to process identity-preserved crops, and we offer a wide variety of products and toll processing services.
Overall objectives This role is responsible for the oversight of the financial activities of MSM and its production facilities in Great Falls and Conrad.
This role will be responsible for directing the preparation of financial reports, summaries, including budgets and forecasts.
As part of this role, this person will work closely with the CGI Director of Accounting on financial reporting and to ensure MSMs financial records are in accordance with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Additionally, this position is responsible for providing finance support to production staff, trading staff, as well as supervising accounting and administrative staff members at the Great Falls, Montana accounting hub.
Duties and Responsibilities Finance Oversight Directs the preparation of all financial statements for MSM.
Helps develop annual budgets and ongoing forecasts to assist MSM senior management in evaluating current operations and progress against budgets and forecasts.
Help develop long term forecasts and models for evaluation of MSMs implementation of strategic plan.
Compares financial statement results to budgets and forecasts; makes or oversees any necessary adjustments to future forecasts and budgets.
Develops internal reporting and modeling to ensure senior management and production staff have strong visibility to timely, accurate, and meaningful metrics and data to allow them to make well informed operational decisions.
Helps identify opportunities for expansion into new markets.
Develop and maintain a full understanding of MSM various supply chains and the proper operational and financial accounting in accordance with US GAAP.
Oversee operational accounting and administrative functions for staff in Great Falls.
Ensure that inbound and outbound shipments and inventory adjustments are accounted for in our accounting system and are properly mapped to income and expense accounts in accounting software.
Ensure accurate accounting for products located in offsite storage locations.
Optimize processes to increase and improve efficiency across the MSM organization.
Ensure staff members are recording and paying various shipment related costs and accounting for them properly (freight, demurrage, quality settlements, etc.
) .
Work with the Operations Department to maintain an internal audit function over inventory.
Work with the Operations Department to maintain accounts payable/receivable.
Maintain an efficient record keeping and organized filing methodology in order to facilitate record retrieval for audit purposes.
Compliance and Regulation Ensure compliance with Federal and State warehousing and buying licenses and other regulations.
Manage United States Department of Agriculture Commodity Credit Corporation audits to ensure the Company maintains its warehouse licenses.
Financial Reporting Collaborate with merchandisers, logistics, and executive teams to deliver accurate reporting, and ensure proper documentation is completed.
Collaborate with CGI Director of Accounting to estimate month-end results, costings, and accruals to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain support for those reconciliations.
Play a supervisory role with the year-end audit, collaborating with CGI Director of Accounting to ensure audit is completed satisfactorily.
Manage bank reconciliation process in collaboration with CGI Corporate accounting department.
Maintain various lease schedules and payments (land, buildings and equipment).
Oversee Canadian accounting for Canadian elevator locations (including foreign currency bank accounts).
Various other ad hoc reporting and accounting/management related tasks as deemed necessary by the Companys management team.
Customer Service and Collections Communicate with customers including but not limited to; settling disputed charges, collecting long outstanding receivable balances, helping to resolve any quality or delivery issues.
Ensure timeliness of billing to customers and prompt follow up on any questions.
Accounting/ERP Systems Knowledge Develop and maintain an expert level knowledge of accounting software.
Develop and maintain a strong level of understanding of production system and how all processes / data interface between production and accounting systems.
Human Resources Support Coordinate with corporate HR to ensure accurate and timely completion of HR related activities for employees at Great Falls office; including hiring, approving time cards, annual evaluations, and terminations.
Ensure that all direct and indirect reports are adequately trained to perform their job duties.
Requirements Undergraduate Degree in Accounting, or Finance Experience CPA / MBA preferred but not required Experience in a production / manufacturing industry.
Twelve or more years of accounting / finance experience, including five or more years of managerial duties Attributes Ethical, honest working style Excellent organizational and communication skills, being able to communicate with upper management, as well as junior level employees Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment High level of attention to detail, and ability to research and dissect data to solve accounting issues.
