Performance based - consult previous years' appraisals) Job Description Overview: The Assistant Director of Studies (ADoS) is responsible for delivering outstanding lessons to our students, as well as assisting the Director of studies with the smooth, efficient, and successful running of all academic aspects of the designated Young Learner Centre.
The ADoS helps in overseeing the running of all academic processes, including staff induction, academic administration, and team management of the academic team in close collaboration with the Director of Studies.
They are required to adhere to BSC Rules and follow all BSC safeguarding policies.
ADoS’ are also required to adopt other duties when required.
The main duties and responsibilities are listed below Duties Academic Plan and deliver high-quality, communicative, and engaging lessons Teach between 15 and 30 hours per week Follow the BSC syllabus and use bespoke BSC academic material Complete registers, records of work and weekly plans in a timely manner Complete any necessary other administration e.
g.
observation paperwork, handing out student questionnaires, student reports Assist Academic Manager in running student test, levelling and placement efficiently Timetabling Manage academic resources including promotion of bespoke BSC NGL books Assist the Director of Studies in administering student reports and certificates Assist the Director of Studies in conducting CPDs Social & Pastoral Participate enthusiastically either afternoon or evening activities as per rota Work with the activities team to ensure smooth running of social programme Accompany and supervise students on excursions Attend to safety and welfare of students on activities and excursions Promote language learning opportunity on all activities and excursions Depending on centre needs, you might be requested to : Actively supervise mealtimes on a rota basis Undertake wake up duty on a rota basis Undertake night duty on a rota basis Ensure safety and wellbeing of students at all times.
Work with Management team/IGLs to deal with any arising student discipline issues.
Ensure all team members are aware of residential duties and what they entail.
Implement mealtimes, wake up and night duties on a rota basis.
Be a role model for the students.
Child Protection & Safeguarding To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for and come into contact with.
Familiarise yourself with the BSC Young Learners safeguarding policy.
To adhere to the BSC Young Leaners Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
Ensure student ratios are maintained in accordance with site rules BSC Young Leaners Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
Complete online Safeguarding for Young Learners (Level 1) before arrival and complete an in-person refresher during on-site induction.
Other In addition to the above, all Activity Leaders are required to: Attend onsite induction to be hosted by Operations Manager.
Work positively as part of a team.
Demonstrate a positive attitude.
Attend and participate in all centre team meetings.
On rare occasions, you may be asked to serve food.
Act according to accepted professional standards at all times.
Act in the welfare of the students at all times.
Make sure you are clean, neat and presentable during working hours.
Comply with the BSC uniform policy.
Comply with centre and BSC YL rules and regulations.
To carry out any duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Centre or Activities Manager.
Required Experience & Skills Essential DELTA or M.
Ed.
in TEFL/TESOL or DipTESOL Experience of working with multi-nationality students High level of computer literacy, particularly MS Office, email, and use of databases Excellent organisational skills Ability to work well in a team Ability to remain calm under pressure Enthusiasm for summer school life Right to work in the UK/EU (depending on the respective centre) Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
Desirable Experience of working with children / teenagers in an educational context Experience of running placement tests Experience of carrying out teacher observations and feedback Experience of holding meetings and writing reports Current valid First Aid certificate Child Protection and Safeguarding training Experience of British Council/Equals/ELT Council inspections Conditions Competitive weekly salary depending on qualifications, experience, and centre size.
