Lewistown Public Schools Job Description Job Title: MATH TEACHER Reports To: School Principal/Superintendent Classification: Certified Revised By: Sandi Chamberlain Revised Date: January 28, 2010 Work Days: 187 SUMMARY: Each teacher is assigned yearly to a position, which is under the direct supervision of an administrator to whom he/she is immediately responsible for all aspects of his/her professional behavior.
The teachers' evaluation criteria is based upon, but not limited to, specific minimum job expectations and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Adapts Math material and methods to develop relevant-sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.
Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of pupils; maintains required inventory records.
Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.
Evaluates each pupil's progress in Math skills.
Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
Keeps attendance records.
Maintains discipline in classroom.
Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems.
The above performance responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may be altered or added to by the Building Principal and/or Superintendent of Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B.

) from an accredited college or university; and a valid Montana teaching certificate with an elementary and/or secondary endorsement in Math education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format and to effectively present information to administration, public groups, and/or board of trustees.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: The work environment for instructors has increasingly become technology driven.
School District #1 expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology, in and out of the classroom.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism and with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Employees of Lewistown School District #1 must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check.
Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
