Job Title: VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE TEACHER Classification: Certified Teacher Reports To: High School Principal Updated By: Sandi Chamberlain Updated Date: February 1, 2008 Approved By: Charles Brown Approved Date: SUMMARY: Teaches students basic techniques and assists in development of manipulative skills in vocational agriculture courses in secondary schools by performing the following duties.
Subject areas could include: Introduction to Ag Science, Animal Science, Horticulture Science, Wildlife and Recreation Management, and Agricultural Mechanics.
Possibility of future subjects to add: Home Maintenance and Improvement, Ag Structures Tech, and Equine Science.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned Follow the scope and sequence of the adopted curriculum of the District.
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Evaluate pupil's academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Establish, make known, and administer approved classroom rules that are appropriate to students' levels of activity.
Instructs pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to maintain equipment, materials and facilities.
Submit written reports, attendance and grade records, and/or progress reports as required by district policy and administrative procedure.
Make all acquisitions/purchases according to District Policy and Administrative Procedure.
Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom situations during the assigned working day.
Participate in various activities designed to maintain or improve professional competence.
Establish and maintain a cooperative and professional relationship with staff, parents, and community.
Maintains contacts with the business community to keep informed of new innovations and job requirements, which must be reflected in the curriculum in order to develop marketable skills as, required by prospective employers.
Initiate and carry on communications with students' parents relative to student academic achievement, personal growth and expectations.
Be aware of and apply currently acceptable educational research to classroom instruction.
Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
Perform other duties as assigned by Board/Administration.
All teachers shall be aware of and adhere to district policies and procedures and shall abide by the terms of the negotiated agreement.
Instructor will also be Advisor to the Fergus of Lewistown FFA Chapter, a very active and competitive chapter in Central Montana that travels all over the state for contests, workshops and conventions.
Must be willing to continue the education process through workshops, conferences, and conventions.
Facilitates leadership development activities as an FFA Sponsor, supervise agricultural experience projects, manage facilities, manage budget, work collaboratively with a newly formed parent/community booster club, supervise the re-organization of the Ag Advisory Committee, work collaboratively with the local Alumni Chapter and foster positive community relations.
Responsible for organizing and supervising CDE and LDE team practices regularly, to ensure the competitive nature of the FFA Chapter.
Expected to facilitate open communication with parents and community with regard to progress of the total Agriculture Education Program.
The above performance responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may be altered or added to by the Superintendent of Schools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B.
S.
) from an accredited college or university; and a valid Montana teaching certificate with an endorsement in Vocational Agriculture.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of trustees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: The work environment for instructors has increasingly become technology driven.
School District #1 expects staff to meet reasonable expectations in the use of computers and other technology, in and out of the classroom.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Employees of Lewistown School District #1 must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check.
Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
