Paraprofessional responsibility for support of Library’s services for children, birth through 12th grade.
This position involves working directly with children and young adults and their parents or caregivers.
This position performing technical library services to patrons that includes a range of informational services, including reference, readers, advisory and programing.
Work is performed under the direction of the Youth Services Librarian.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Staffs Kids Place Assisting patrons in making effective use of libraryProviding readers advisory services for library patronsTraining users on procedures, policies, use of computer and related areasAnswering patron reference questionsAssisting patrons to use to the library catalog, library databases, MontanaLibrary2Go and other internet resources to retrieve materials and informationDocumenting service statistics2.
Assists in the implementation of programing for children from birth through 18 years of age Assisting in the planning, organizing, purchasing supplies for and presenting weekly Story Time Assisting in the planning, organizing, purchasing supplies for and presenting weekly Toddler Time Assisting in the planning, organizing, purchasing supplies for and presenting Young Adult Programing Assisting in the planning, organizing, purchasing supplies for and presenting the annual Summer Reading program Assisting in the planning, organizing, purchasing supplies for and installing monthly Story Walks in Gibson ParkAssisting in developing and implementing other programing to engage the Great Falls Community Creating flyers and promotional materialsConducting routine clerical activities as requested by library staff3.
Contributes to making the Great Falls Public Library environment welcoming and inviting placeShelving and shifting Library materials as neededCollaborates with volunteers to achieve Department goalsEnsuring that Library public spaces are organized and stocked appropriatelyMaking displaysEnforcing Great Falls Public Library policies (including behavior policies, computer use policies and materials policies) 4.
Supports the development of the Great Falls Public Library CollectionCreating orders/short records in SIRSIRepairing Library materialsUnder the direction of the Youth Services Librarian, weeding and discarding Library materialsReviewing Collection Development resources and making suggestions as appropriateUnder the direction of the Youth Services Librarian, creating carts in vendor interfacesCreating reports and informational materials as requested5.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a library environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, pinch, grasp, reach, pull and perform similar body movements.
Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer, typewriter, microfilm reader, printer and copier; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read materials.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThe work schedule is a 40-hour, five day work week, Sunday through Saturday.
Schedule will vary and will include evenings and weekends.
This position is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime.
TRAVELTravel is primarily local during the business day.
Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
