The Vice Chancellor for Student Success (VCSS) implements and promotes institution-wide student recruitment, retention, and graduation initiatives; using institutional data to assess existing and potential enrollment initiatives within Student Affairs, support the development and implementation of enrollment initiatives in other divisions on campus, report on the effectiveness of all enrollment initiatives, and develop the institution’s strategic response to enrollment-related assessments.
The VCSS sits as the Dean of Students and cultivates a community of engaged learners supported by services and programs that enhance learning in and outside of the classroom; collaborates with faculty, staff, administration, student organizations, and community groups to ensure fair and equitable access to resources for all students; and advances student resilience and personal growth through wholistic programming.
The VCSS has oversight of the offices of Recruitment, Financial Aid, Digital Communication & Marketing, Residential Education & Student Engagement, Student Health Services, Accessibility Services, Dining Services, and the University Bookstore.
The VCSS facilitates policies and practices in support of the institution’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan, to include the development and implementation of the University’s strategic enrollment management plan and the facilitation of a vibrant, engaging, safe, and supportive campus community.
Duties and Responsibilities The Vice Chancellor for Student Success has authority and is accountable for the following: Overarching Responsibilities 1.
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Division of Student Success, cultivating shared vision and ownership for the implementation of a comprehensive student experience outside of the classroom; 2.
Provide substantive contributions to institutional strategic direction and leadership as a member of the Chancellor’s Executive and Core Leadership teams.
3.
Collaborate with the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs/Provost and other members of the Chancellor’s Executive Team to recommend, develop, and implement policies and procedures that promote student success, increase engagement, and enhance the student experience.
4.
Foster a campus environment that is welcoming, inclusive, student-centered, and equitable.
5.
Promote respect for students, faculty, and staff and recognizes initiative and excellence.
Enrollment Management 6.
Provide leadership and oversight for the offices of Recruiting, Financial Aid, Student Communications/Social Media.
7.
Create, assess, update, and implement a Strategic Enrollment Management Plan, informed by data and aligned with the mission and vision of the university.
8.
Lead recruitment, retention, and completion efforts by creating innovative, wholistic enrollment strategies to sustain and grow enrollment at MSUN.
9.
Utilize institutional data to identify enrollment trends and develop effective initiatives in response 10.
Provide leadership and oversight for the institution’s financial aid program, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with a focus on access, equity, financial literacy, and student-centeredness.
11.
Provide leadership and oversight for the institution’s marketing and communications efforts, assessing the consistency and effectiveness of these efforts, and leading the marketing committee in managing the overarching marketing message of the University to ensure all communications promote its mission, vision, values, and programs.
Student Affairs 1.
As Dean of Students, provide leadership and oversight for the offices of Residential Education & Student Engagement, Retail & Finance, Student Health & Wellness, and Accessibility Services.
2.
Collaborate with divisional and campus stakeholders to develop, assess, revise, and implement the Student Affairs Strategic Plan as part of the overall Strategic Enrollment Management Plan, ensuring the use of data-informed practices to facilitate a comprehensive student life program in alignment with the institution’s mission, vision, and values.
3.
Provide leadership and oversight for the institution’s conduct and crisis response policies and procedures, ensuring compliance within a focus on safety, equity, and student-centeredness.
4.
Provide leadership and oversight for the institution’s student engagement efforts.
5.
Provide leadership and oversight for the institution’s retail and food service operations.
Administrative, Fiduciary, and Compliance Responsibilities 6.
Represent MSUN in the campus and greater community on matters pertaining to student enrollment and student affairs 7.
Serve on the Chancellor’s Executive Team to establish programs and policies that fulfill the mission and vision of the University; 8.
Maintain regular and open communication with the Chancellor and Executive Team; 9.
Serve on committees and councils as directed by the Chancellor and serve in the Chancellor’s stead when asked; 10.
Develop and monitor budget of areas of responsibility 11.
Ensure compliance with applicable Federal (e.
g.
Clery, Financial Aid, etc.
), state, and local laws, policies and regulations in relation to the Board of Regents, Commissioner’s Office, and University policies, including reports as required 12.
Perform duties as assigned that enhance and support the university’s mission and strategic goals.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Master’s degree or equivalent required.
A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Progressively responsible experience in education, higher education, school or public administration.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the pursuit of an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills 1.
Doctorate in higher education, public administration, or applicable degree program; 2.
Demonstrated experience in leading and supervising staff; 3.
Demonstrated experience in creating, implementing, analyzing and revising initiatives, programs, or process in support of an entity’s expressed mission, vision, and values; 4.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; 5.
Demonstrated experience in enrollment management within higher education; 6.
Knowledge of retention best practices, data analytics, and student life cycle; 7.
Demonstrated experience in residential life, student success, or student affairs programming; 8.
Experience fostering a collegial working environment and building consensus; 9.
Experience in or knowledge of financial aid management; 10.
Experience in developing and administering budgets; 11.
Experience with computer software, apps, social media, and technology utilized in enrollment management; 12.
Demonstrated use of marketing and communications principles to create a cohesive message to a specific audience; 13.
Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; 14.
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a variety of stakeholders; 15.
Understanding of the policies, regulations, laws, and procedures that govern higher education within a state system; 16.

Title IX Coordinator The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX.
The Title IX Coordinator oversees compliance with the University’s Discrimination and Grievance Policy.
