Residential Life Community Coordinator *POSITION SUMMARY* As a 12-month live-in position, the Residential Life Community Coordinator position works directly with the Director of Community Standards and Residential Life to create a successful and supportive residence life experience for University of Providence students.
By residing in campus housing and being readily available to respond to crises and urgent situations, the Residential Life Community Coordinator helps to create and maintain a safe and supportive residential environment for all students.
In addition, they will work to develop and implement programs and activities that foster a sense of community, well-being, and belonging among college residents, and support students in developing the skills required to successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges of living and learning within the University community.
This position manages Resident Assistant (RA) staff and is responsible for providing leadership by promoting an atmosphere within the residential community that supports academic achievement and fosters responsible decision-making and supporting community and student development through Resident Assistant programming.
In addition, the position is responsible for professional and effective communication with students, parents, staff, faculty, and members of the campus community.
*RESPONSIBILITIES* * Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of Resident Assistants * Implement and carry out a community engagement learning and support model * Facilitate the training for RAs to respond to crisis situations in accordance with departmental and institutional emergency procedures; assume “on-call” responsibility for all area residence halls and apartments on a scheduled basis * Responsible for the administrative functions and managerial operations of all residence halls and apartments including student maintenance and RA programming * Responsible for all housing and residence life areas in the absence of the Director of Community Standards and Residential Life * Provide leadership and supervision in the development of education and social programming within the residence hall communities * Responsible for addressing the needs, interests, and concerns of the hall/apartment residents and respond to students’ residence life concerns on a regular basis * Respond appropriately to confidential matters and make proper referrals to university offices as needed * Demonstrate an on-going commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice by addressing the needs and concerns of underrepresented students * Develop and demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful University community * Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the University * Review, recommend, and assist in the development of residence life policies and procedures.
* Serve as a Student Conduct Administrator for student conduct, Residential Life policies, and other behavioral concerns and effectively resolve disciplinary problems * Conduct training on information and customer service functions, policies, and procedures for residence hall offices * Provide leadership for the day-to-day operation of one or more Residential Learning Communities, First Year Residential Experience, and/or Upper Classman experience; assist with large-scale educational and community-based initiatives * Maintain availability for crisis situations and in-hall intervention and offer immediate support and resources to students involved; communicate with appropriate staff in a timely manner when situations arise * Manage records of facility, maintenance, and security issues within the residence halls and collaborate with other professional housing and facilities staff members to maintain a safe living environment conducive to learning * Maintain and update student housing assignments with university information systems * Maintain accurate records of housing availability, resident agreements, and apartment/room key replacements * Collaborate with Registrar, Admissions, and Athletics for residence hall tours to ensure housing for overnight visits of prospective students, faculty, and/or recruits * Communicate with residents regarding health and safety inspections and other issues * Facilitate collaboration with Student Engagement and Athletics staff as well as student services staff in Argo Central regarding student move-in and orientation scheduling * Participate in New Student orientation and Welcome Week activities * Coordinate occupancy management including check-in/check-out process, break housing, and room consolidation * Maintain visibility and availability within the hall and initiate informal contacts with students while modeling this behavior for staff members * Conduct and structure weekly staff meetings with all RAs as well as weekly staff meetings with RAs in the assigned building(s) * Assist with ongoing development, implementation, supervision, and assessment of departmental residential curriculum *ESSENTIAL POSITION COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS* *EDUCATION* * Bachelor’s degree Required *EXPERIENCE* * Two years of relevant professional experience working in a related field.
Graduate and undergraduate student experience will be considered.
* Knowledge of best practices related to living and learning programs and services designed to promote student success.
* Familiarity with student conduct proceedings, Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, and other higher education compliance/legal issues preferred.
* Demonstrated multicultural competence as well as comfort and skill in working with diverse populations.
* Experience with collaboration, problem-solving, multi-tasking, crisis management, and organizational skills.
