*Bulk Loads Transportation Specialist* *FLSA Classification* Nonexempt *Reports to* Fleet and Logistics Manager *Job Description* *Summary/objective* The Hazmat Over-the-Road Class A Truck Driver is responsible for transporting hazardous materials safely and efficiently over long distances.
This critical role involves ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials.
The driver must maintain the highest standards of safety, security, and professionalism while delivering hazardous materials to their designated destinations.

_ The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following: 1.
Safe Transportation: Operate a Class A commercial vehicle equipped to handle hazardous materials while adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.
Drive long distances, typically cross-country or interstate routes, and maintain focus on safety at all times.

Hazardous Materials Handling: Load, unload, and secure hazardous materials onto the truck in accordance with proper handling procedures, ensuring the prevention of spills or leaks during transit.
3.
Compliance and Regulations: Thoroughly understand and follow all relevant federal, state, and local regulations for transporting hazardous materials, including those set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
4.
Documentation: Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation, such as shipping manifests, hazardous materials manifests, and delivery receipts, accurately and promptly.
5.
Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of the truck and ensure that it is in proper working condition before and after each trip.
Report any mechanical issues or defects for repair.
6.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and other team members to provide updates on delivery status, potential delays, and any incidents related to hazardous materials.
7.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as spills, leaks, or accidents involving hazardous materials.
Follow proper procedures to mitigate risks and report incidents immediately.
8.
Time Management: Plan and manage routes efficiently to ensure timely deliveries while adhering to Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
9.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, as truck drivers often represent the company to clients at pick-up and delivery locations.
10.
Security and Safety Measures: Adhere to company-specific security protocols and safety guidelines to prevent unauthorized access to hazardous materials and ensure the security of the cargo.
*Competencies* 11.
Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement: Possess a valid CDL with appropriate endorsements, including hazardous materials (H) endorsement.
12.
Experience: Previous experience as an over-the-road truck driver is preferred, and experience handling hazardous materials is a significant advantage.
13.
Clean Driving Record: Maintain a clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
14.
Knowledge: Familiarity with federal regulations regarding hazardous materials transportation, including placarding, labeling, and emergency response procedures.
15.
Physical Endurance: Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy objects, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
16.
Safety-Conscious: Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and the ability to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
17.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, customers, and authorities effectively.
18.
Flexibility: Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed, to meet delivery schedules.
19.
Geographic Knowledge: Familiarity with various routes and geographical locations to plan efficient travel.
As a Hazmat Over-the-Road Class A Truck Driver, you play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of hazardous materials, protecting both the public and the environment.

*Physical demands* Able to move or lift products and materials of varied sizes and weights, sometimes in excess of 300 pounds.
*Preferred education and experience* Minimum of one-year prior city delivery and over-the-road driving experience strongly preferred.
