Job Title: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOOD SERVER
Classification: FOOD SERVER
Reports To: Food Service Director/Principal/Superintendent
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Classified

SUMMARY: The Food Server will serve attractive and nutritious meals in an efficient and friendly manner, under sanitary conditions, to all students and staff.
If involved with the breakfast program, the Food Server will also prepare, serve, clean up and perform the necessary recordkeeping for this meal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned Perform general cleaning duties as assigned.
Required to be punctual, dependable, clean, and must learn and practice all sanitary and safety procedures upon arrival at work site.
Assist with the training and supervision of cafeteria helpers.
Required to maintain physical condition to be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Assist custodial staff with the maintenance of trash and garbage collection following sanitary requirements.
Responsible for the washing and sanitizing of utensils, cupboards, coolers, counters, tables and furnishings in the cafeteria and kitchen following each meal.
Refill necessary items for the next meal.
Perform food handling, preparation, and serving duties as assigned.
Responsible for the safe and timely preparation of the breakfast meal following daily production sheet instructions.
Responsible for the daily recordkeeping of student and adult breakfast participation using the building meal tracking plan.
Responsible for adequate serving portions by comparing amounts of food received with daily production sheets.
Responsible for recording and maintaining proper food temperatures throughout meal period.
Organizes and prepares utensils and food portions for serving.
Serves students and staff meals in a pleasant, helpful and efficient manner.
The meals must be served within the school's designated time frame.
Responsible for the proper handling of leftover foods and items for storage at building or in carriers for transport back to the Central Kitchen.
Accurately complete the daily production sheet and place orders to the Central Kitchen for foods and supplies as needed.
Participate in assigned food service training programs as directed by the Superintendent, Food Service Director and/or Principal.

INDIRECT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Indirectly supervises 1 or 2 volunteer student or adult cafeteria helpers.
Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must complete a ten (10) hour safety and sanitation course within the first six (6) months of employment.

Hand/eye movement and coordination are necessary for the serving line, portioning food and clean up.
