Nature of Work
Responsible for overall installation, repair, upkeep and operational maintenance of Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Center facilities.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Recreation Manager.
Essential Functions of Work Supervises, directs, and schedules work of custodians in recreation and aquatic facilities.
Assists in physical maintenance and janitorial work, as necessary, including cleaning and preventative maintenance of the facilities.
Prioritizes and schedules work projects to avoid conflict with scheduled games and events; coordinating projects, personnel and equipment with other facility personnel.
Researches information on equipment and supplies.
Develops bid specifications and analyzes bids.
Evaluates, tests, selects and purchases supplies, equipment and machinery.
Reviews and approves receipts for merchandise purchased.
Prepares, monitors and controls assigned budgets.
Understands the variety of equipment in the recreation and aquatic facilities and is able to repair minor breakdowns in a timely manner.
Recommends to Recreation Manager changes to keep facilities in top working condition including general maintenance and replacement of large scale equipment.
Provides safety training in work place practices and conditions for recreation and aquatic facilities.
Ensures material safety data sheets for all chemicals in inventory.
Inspects weekly facilities for safety issues, vandalism and needed maintenance.
Explains policies and regulations, remains current on applicable laws, codes, rules and procedures.
Conducts annual work performance reviews of custodial staff.
Serves as Ambassador for the department representing the department’s goals and mission.
Reports concerning issues to Recreation Manager on facility, staffing or foreseeable future problems.
Education and Experience Experience with custodial and maintenance job duties Two years of experience in supervisory role A high school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor of Science with emphasis in Engineering preferred NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Certified Pool Operators license or Aquatic Facility Operator or ability to attain license within 6 months of employment.
Employee must possess a valid Montana driver’s license.
Requirements of Work Thorough knowledge of the use and application of CPR and First Aid, Emergency Action Plan Ability to supervise, assign, train, and direct the work of other employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the general public.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical operations of aquatic and recreation facilities including HVAC and chemical controls for public pools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this position, employees may be exposed to adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind and to chemicals used in cleaning and sanitation of recreation and aquatic facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements.
Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer, pool equipment and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The position is a full-time position.
The work schedule is a 40-hour workweek, Sunday through Saturday.
This position is exempt and is ineligible for overtime.
TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day.
Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
