McLaughlin Research Institute is a center for neurogenetic research on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other degenerative nerve diseases.
MRI is currently seeking a qualified and result driven accountant.
This position is responsible for accounting processes, processes payroll, maintains chart of accounts, reconciles bank statements, and provides intakes for all financial donations received.
As a direct report to the Vice President, this position works closely with leadership to ensure the Institute's finances and accounting practices are upheld.
The Institute is honored to have various federal, state, and private foundation grants, and is grateful for generous financial support from community members.
This position will facilitate and steward financial gifts and reimbursements, ensuring MRI’s accounting practices hold fidelity and honor the giver.
As a critical component of the administrative team, this position must be able to communicate effectively both in written and verbally and be able to effectively organize and manage time.
This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining accounting best practices and principles and keeps the VP and Director well-informed of the financial picture of the Institute.

Accounts Payable and Receivable * Oversee the processing of and ensure accurate and timely preparation of accounts payable and receivables with effective monitoring, verification, and coding procedures to ensure accuracy.
* Keeps informed and up-to-date in knowledge of procurement process with NIH and additional funding sources.
* Works with the budget specialist to properly invoice, track, and manage MRI charges and payment receipt Payroll Processing * Maintain payroll records and any changes to employee information.
* Prepare reports that include summaries of earnings, tax deductions, leave, non-taxable wages * Process biweekly payroll and complete staff time allocations * Process and issue W-2 forms to employees.
Donor Gift and Grant Processing * Process and manages all financial and donor transactions in accounting platform (Quickbooks).
* Works with the VP and fundraising staff to process correct financial and donor data in the donor database.
* Input all gifts and audit compliance of all gift recording.
Financial Reports, Audits, and Control * Perform general accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliations, special reports, retirement fund contributions, etc.
* Process all financial, project/program and grants accounting ensuring that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period * Prepare organizational cash flow forecasting; continuously collaborate with researchers, VP to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
* Manage and track invested assets, personal property, and inventory * Collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
* Generates grant tracking and financial reports for VP.
* Prepare timely and accurate financial reports such as financial statements and budget performance for scheduled meetings with the VP, President, internal agency and board of directors.
* Prepares program specific financials for each research team and their program/ department.
* Coordinates tax form preparation.
* Assist in preparation and completion of annual audit and Form 990, to include preparation of requested audit and tax schedules and responding to substantiation requests from the independent accounting firm.
* Aids in the implementation of accounting policies, standards, and guidelines.

* Supports the work of the Institute in serving the cultural, social, racial, and economic diversity represented within board and staff.

* Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience Proficient with computers and common computer programs (Microsoft Office).
Proficiency in QuickBooks for Non-Profits.
Experience with Non-Profit Grant Management.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: $50,000.
