Lewistown Public Schools Job Description Job Title: ASSISTANT CHEERLEADING COACH Classification: Extracurricular Reports To: Head Coach/Activity Director/Athletic Director/Principal/Superintendent FLSA Status: Nonexempt/Classified Approved Date: December 3, 2018 QUALIFICATIONS - Employed as a teacher or substitute teacher in the Lewistown Public Schools preferred.
Previous high school and/or college experience as a cheerleader or coach is desirable.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

SUPERVISES - Cheerleaders and team assigned to her and assumes supervising control over all cheerleaders in program when such control is needed.
JOB GOAL - To instruct cheerleaders in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
To advise and lead the cheerleaders so that they function as effectively as possible to instill school spirit at athletic events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsible for assisting with the directing, supervising and training of the cheerleaders.
Responsible for assisting with the conduct of the cheerleaders at practice and at all contests.
Leads and directs the cheerleaders in such a way as to encourage good sportsmanship by example and leadership.
Conducts herself before the students and the community so as to instill respect and good sportsmanship.
Assists with the responsibility of promoting an energetic public relations program for the cheerleaders and their activities.
Assists with supervision of all practice sessions.
Responsible for assisting with routines for football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, the homecoming parade and other designated events.
Assists with working with the band director in the selection of music, themes and formations for half-time numbers/routines, as needed.
Assists with responsibility for the stereo equipment, team uniforms and supplies.
Sees that the cheerleaders carry out all the duties set forth in their constitution.
Assists with responsibility for ordering awards and for issuing awards to the cheerleaders deserving of them.
Assists with responsibility for directing and supervising fund raising efforts, as needed, within established school policy.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all school matters.
Conducts a clinic for tryouts and arranges for all judges for the tryouts.
Responsible for any other duties relating to cheerleading as may be directed by the Head Coach, Athletic Director and/or Principal.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and ability to work with high school age students in a positive manner.
Must have current tuberculin test results and First Aid certificate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to students, parents, coaches, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE - Screening tests for alcohol and illegal drug use may be required before hiring and during your employment in the Lewistown Public Schools.
Employees of the Lewistown Public Schools must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check.
Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
